For an expecting parent who is unfamiliar with your store, please describe it. How do you see its mission and sensibility? What are its core offerings?

The best way I would describe my store is warm and welcoming. We help make new parents feel comfortable. There is a lot to learn if you have never shopped for baby and having all the best products there to touch and feel makes it easier for new parents to understand. We have 40 years of experience in helping new parents figure out what’s best for them. Our strengths are furniture and gear. We have a wide selection of furniture lines that are most on-trend. We cover the gambit of price ranges. People love our selection of gliders. We also have an interesting selection of toys and gifts. Soft, cute and comfy is the best way to describe our clothes. We try and be a one stop shop with most things baby needs in that first year.

How long has the store been in business? Any interesting tidbit you’d like to share about the background of the store or its owner?

The original Juvenile Shop was established in 1938. My grandfather bought that first location in 1964. We use to have Sunday dinners above the store where my grandparents lived. The store we are currently in was purchased by my family in 1978. I walked in during the summer of 1979 and told my mom I would work for her for the summer. The rest, as they say, is history. My passion for my store is still huge. My mom retired 20 years ago but she still here’s all about the store every day.

Any favorite advice for people shopping for a nursery for the first time?  Or for a stroller or car seat?

There is no right or wrong. Everybody has their own way of doing things—what works great for one baby might not work at all for the next. As far as shopping for a nursery enjoy the experience: The one thing I hear over and over is: “Wow you made that so much easier.” Safety and style are key when shopping for baby gear. Strollers, car seats and gliders are the three things you should not buy sight unseen.

Notice any interesting trends in shopping for nursery or for baby gear lately?

We have been doing a lot of white nurseries again. Also the caramel browns and scarped woods are popular in furniture .In Baby gear the Nuna brand has been hot.

What are one or two hot products that you love right now (and why)?

My favorite new products are the Dock a Tot—we can’t keep them in stock. It’s great safe place for baby to lounge. I am most excited about the new Nuna Rava convertible car seat. Nuna makes a great infant car seat and everyone keeps asking for that next step and now it is almost here.
